Beauty knows NO age limit! That was apparent when Dr. Barbara King received her Reflection Award trophy at the BIBO Awards Los Atlanta event on December 8th 2013 for Outstanding Spiritual Leader. Dr. King has been a worldwide spiritual leader for over 40 years and, to date, she is the BIBO Awards’ most senior recipient at 85 years young! Despite being in ill health, she graciously appeared in person at the event and accepted her award on the purple carpet to an enthusiastic and supportive audience.
Dr. King is the Minister and founder of the Hillside Chapel and Truth Center, Inc., in Atlanta, Georgia. Reverend Dr. Barbara Lewis King has played an important role in the African American church and community for many years. She was the first consecrated Bishop within the International New Thought Christian movement and the first female chief enstooled at Assin Nsuta, Ghana, West Africa. Beyond her ministry, King is the author of seven books and monologues, such as Piddlin for the Soul, Love Your Body Temple, and What is a Miracle? In 2003, Savoy Magazine’s Power Issue of 100 Most Influential Blacks in America listed Reverend King as number eight among female ministers.
Since Dr. King accepted her Reflection Award trophy, the BIBO Awards has created a category, aptly named Legacy of Beauty, which now celebrates and honors women over the age of 65, such as the incredible Dr. Barbara King, who have demonstrated a lifetime of service to their communities and have opened the door for countless others.
